A recap of the OB City Council meeting, Wednesday, July 27

Here is a recap of the OBTC meeting on Wednesday evening, July 27. From OBTC

Public Comment

Dogs – The issue of more dogs on the non-dog parts of the OB beach has been raised. The San Diego SPCA is supposed to enforce this. Linus from Jenn Campbell’s office said they are working to get the SPCA to report their actual application of this more accurately and they will sort out an alternate application if Iyou does not improve.

Alternative to fireworks Mike James is organizing an effort to bring a variation of the fourth fireworks back to OB, but it would be a LIGHT SHOW instead of fireworks! This means lasers, lights, etc….these are not fireworks! If you’re interested in getting involved, there’s a meeting at Rincon Brewery in Newport on August 25 from 6-7 p.m. Let’s do it – event link: https://www.facebook.com/events/1157389101479327

Fundraising The Peninsula Alliance is hosting a fundraiser on November 19 to raise money for the Veterans Plaza project. More info at: obveteransplaza.org.

OB Community Leaders

OBMA / Denny Knox:

The streets are finally completely cleaned after Street Fair/Chili Cookoff!

The Street Fair murals are also nearing completion and will be installed in new locations around the city. They’ve started planning Oktoberfest (contact them to get involved/volunteer!), and they’re starting to plan their holiday decorating for this year.

OB Library / Rickey Meister:

Continues to have limited hours as follows: Wednesday-Thursday 9:30am-6pm | Monday-Tuesday 11.30am-8pm

public safety

SDPD / Officer Surwilo:

No major incidents on July 4! Getting ready for Labor Day. Vehicle habitation laws remain unenforced due to an ongoing dispute with the city. However, the police enforce laws such as registration, parking, etc. around the question. One night recently, the 3rd shift swept some lots and issued 66 tickets for various infractions.
