Wichita Falls District 1 City Council
WICHITA FALLS, TX (KAUZ) – The District 1 seat of the Wichita Falls City Council is up for grabs for the next term. This year, incumbent Michael Smith and candidate Carol Murray are competing for the seat.
Smith is a longtime resident of Wichita Falls who served on city council for 12 years. Murray owns several businesses in Wichita Falls and is involved in several community organizations. The two said they were convinced they would win the seat.
“I’ve learned some things and am sensitive to people’s issues,” Smith said.
“I have been an employee for many years and have also been an employer for many years,” said Murray. “In fact, one of the things I would also like to focus on is an annual city-level employee benefits survey. “

Murray said she hopes to use her experience in running businesses and their budgets to find better ways to spend the $ 196 million the city has available each year.
“I believe these skills are all transferable to local government management and it’s about looking at the budget, what are we spending our money on and what we want. Sometimes you can’t always have what you want, but we have to have certain needs in place, ”Murray said.
While Smith has said if he is re-elected to the District 1 city council seat, he plans to focus on job security and quality of life.
“We need to make our city as attractive as possible, not only to our residents, but also to attract new jobs, new businesses,” Smith said.
“I can voice my opinion and hopefully convince anyone who doesn’t think like me, here’s a better way to approach the problem,” Smith said.
“What I would like to do is go in there and say frankly line by line, what’s in the budget, what are we asking citizens to pay for,” Murray said.
Election day is November 2, but you don’t have to wait until then to vote. You can vote in advance until October 29.
